$88 Million Covidien Hernia Mesh Award

Update 2026 – We are accepting certain types of hernia mesh removal/revision cases.

$88 Million Covidien Hernia Mesh Award

$88 Million was awarded by a federal jury in Boston on August 4, 2026 to Larry Patterson and his wife for severe injuries caused by his Covidien Symbotex mesh. The Alabama man underwent hernia repair surgery in 2017 and the mesh later caused a serious bowel obstruction requiring a 2020 revision surgery to remove portions of the bowel entangled with mesh and additional reconstructive surgery. Following a three-week trial in Boston federal court, the jurors found that Medtronic’s Covidien unit failed to provide an adequate warning about the dangers posed by the mesh implanted in 2017 and awarded $88 Million.
10,350 plaintiffs nationally are pursuing cases against Medtronic alleging they were ‌harmed after being implanted with products from Covidien hernia mesh including Parietex, ProGrip and Symbotex. Medtronic faces 7450 hernia mesh lawsuits in Massachusetts state court. Another 2,400 lawsuits are consolidated in federal court in MDL 3029before Judge Patti B. Saris in the District of Massachusetts.
