Pelvic mesh, marketed by Boston Scientific for pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence caused chronic pain. A longtime nurse wrote: “I’ve watched for threats to public health throughout my career. When a revolving-door politician profits while ignoring one, I feel compelled to speak up. Sununu, running again for U.S. Senate, built part of his fortune on a product that caused agony for thousands of women: transvaginal pelvic mesh, marketed by Boston Scientific for pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence. Instead, the polypropylene implants caused chronic pain, organ perforation and debilitating tissue erosion. While women suffered, Sununu chaired Boston Scientific’s Risk Committee, the board panel overseeing product quality, regulatory compliance and FDA communications. That oversight doesn’t stop at approval — manufacturers must keep monitoring device performance and report safety problems as they surface. Reviewing that data and managing FDA dealings was his committee’s job. Even as lawsuits mounted and regulators raised alarms, Boston Scientific fought to keep the mesh on the market. Years later, the FDA ruled it too dangerous to sell.”
